Using Renault’s successful Dauphine and R8 small sedans as a basis, Alpine developed a compact and attractive sports car in the A108 and A110. The bodies were in fiberglass, with a steel backbone, and later examples had sophisticated specifications that included 5-speed gearbox and disc brakes all round. The cars were quite successful in rallies, earning the World Rally Champion title in 1973, and winning Monte Carlo in 1971. In addition to being built in France, the cars were built under license in various other places, including Spain, Mexico, South America, and Bulgaria.
This particular car is an early production Spanish built example, one of 908 built. While most A110s now in the United States were imported later in their lives, this car has been in California since 1971, and remained here ever since.
