Description

With a reported conversion cost new of in excess of £55,000, the Lynx Eventer was an unapologetically expensive proposition new. Each car was hand built strictly to order on a custom made jig taking 14 weeks from order to delivery. With just 67 cars produced by Lynx, this is an extremely rare estate car version of the Jaguar XJS 5.3 HE V12.

What was amazing at the time was how competent the Eventer was to drive. The rearward shift in weight distribution required stiffer rear suspension but the XJS accepted this modification gracefully. The Eventer actually weighed less than the standard XJS - so acceleration was sharper. Here was a small home-grown engineering company with the vision and the skills to create a car, under licence by Jaguar that drove like the product of a multi-million pound R&D programme, matched by a level of finish and detail to rival the best.

This extremely important 1982 Lynx Eventer was no less than the first ever Lynx Eventer to be sold, and can be seen in the photographs, proudly bears the conversion No."002", (001 being the prototype). With its then registration number of 1 HOP it is the actual silver car depicted in the Lynx factory brochures and magazines of the time. Of course the importance of this car cannot be understated in the history of the Lynx Eventer. Copies of the original brochure and much in the way of magazine articles which, over the years, the Lynx featured in are included in the extensive paperwork that comes with this car giving the new owner not only the first Lynx to be sold but a concise and complete history of the Lynx Eventer model as well.

This Lynx Eventer is offered for sale as a project and after 15 years in storage is in need of restoration, it's currently a non-runner with no MOT and has travelled 116,840 miles. Prior to storage the vendor informs us it benefitted from much in the way of mechanical work as described by various documentary and photographic evidence and previous parts fitted, all work done have been Jaguar badged parts at Jaguar approved Dealerships. It will be supplied with a file of various receipts, invoices, magazine articles, posters, various other paperwork, owners handbook and workshop manual.

This is a fabulous opportunity to acquire a Lynx Eventer with unrivalled history and although being over 32 years old it could be restored to its previous standards. One not to be missed by the discerning buyer.

Following recent results this Lynx Eventer is surely worthy of consideration at this guide price.
