"The Land Rover Series IIA is considered by many to be the hardiest Series model constructed. It is also quite possibly the model that features most strongly in the general public's perception of the Land Rover, from its many appearances in popular films and television documentaries set in Africa throughout the 1960s, such as Born Free. In February 1968, just a few months after its manufacturer had been subsumed, under government pressure, into the Leyland Motor Corporation, the Land Rover celebrated its twentieth birthday, with total production to date just short of 600,000, of which more than 70% had been exported.
This is quite an interesting example, having been fitted with a three-litre ‘Essex’ V6, courtesy of Ford. The vendor tells us this engine makes it really quite fun to drive, with far more power than the original unit and a nice sound to go with it. There is a plate in the engine bay indicating the vehicle was originally supplied by F.W.D Motors Ltd of Kingston on Thames and it is presented in very nice order today, with a bit of patina here and there, exactly how a series Land Rover should be! With space for three people in the cab and two side facing bench seats in the back, this Landy could quite comfortably fit seven or eight people and it’s even ULEZ exempt!
