Description

During the late 1960s, Land Rover weren’t quite the behemoth they are today. The Series models were still well in favour with rugged utilitarian types, but the marketplace was changing. They needed an all new car that retained its go-anywhere abilities, but allowed new owners to drive into town, for dinner, or maybe even a dance.

To achieve this blend, Land Rover utilised a longer more stable 100” chassis, and fitted it with coil springs. The modern spring set-up would be so impressive, that it would continue to be the basis for the first Discovery models in the 1990s.

The model we have here, is a 1992 Vogue SE, one of the top-specifications available, it combines genuine off-road capability, with true luxury. This was Merlin’s personal car until 2022. Merlin bought the car from its first owner who had had it from 1992 - 2021. Merlin sold the car to a friend in 2022 who had spent in excess of £30,000 (all documented) on the car. It has two previous owners (the first and Merlin) showing on the V5 plus the most recent owner making this just a 3 owner car.

On the exterior you’ll find Westminster Grey paintwork which presents in excellent condition, the grey paintwork is complimented by a delectable chocolate brown vinyl roof and pillar set, the excellent condition is thanks to a full repaint in 2022 by Alchemy Paint in Hastings, Sussex.

The later style standard-fit plastic grilles are accentuated by period-correct light guards and Hella fog light covers. All the body mouldings are in excellent condition, and the whole exterior is completed by the silver three-spoke alloy wheels.

Settle into the lavishly trimmed Brown Leather interior and you’re greeted by an early hard dash, with contrasting wood trim. The steering wheel is finished in burr walnut and pairs perfectly with the luxurious leather seats, which too are in excellent condition, the headliner has no rips or tears and there is a dog guard fitted to protect the interior from any slobbering Labradors! There is a modern Bluetooth stereo head unit fitted that powers upgraded speakers.

The most recent owner opted to have the brown Everflex roof fitted which looks the absolute nuts! Being a Vogue SE, it has a glass sliding sunroof and air conditioning too.

Under the bonnet, you’ll find a fuel-injected 3.9L V8 mated to an automatic transmission. The ideal combination which offers torque in abundance and an excellent soundtrack thanks to a stainless steel exhaust system. There are no leaks, and the engine runs perfectly. This is one of the best driving Range Rover Classics we’ve ever offered. There is also a remote controlled exhaust bypass, allowing you to essentially straight pipe the raucous V8 on command - a great and totally incognito party trick. An abundance of mechanical and structural works have been carried out over the past 2 years by Range Rover Classic gurus Twenty Ten Engineering.

The underside and the engine bay are in excellent shape, this is supported by an extensive history file. Invoices are present for everything from MOTs to the full respray. The history file includes original communications of additional services supplied to the first owner from the supplying Land Rover dealership.

The classic Range Rover shape oozes style, they have managed, quite impressively to never fall out of favour. So much so that despite the introduction of the new P38 in 1994, Range Rover Classic production carried on until 1996. In the past few years, the Range Rover has seen somewhat of a popular resurgence, but thanks to their long production run, and cult following, availability of parts and multiple specialists make this an very easy classic to live with.

This Vogue SE, would look as at home parked on Park Lane as it would in the highlands of Scotland. The original and ultimate, luxury off-roader. It is presents as an exceptional opportunity to reap the reward of someone else’s extreme expenditure and buy a Classic that’s had everything it needed already recently done.

As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The bike can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
