Description

Chassis no. 670033 is an aluminium-bodied lightweight Jaguar XK120 roadster. In its original colours of cream with a two-tone red and biscuit interior it was despatched from the factory in 1949 to International Motors, the authorised Jaguar dealer in Hollywood, California. The car was used by Roger Barlow, the proprietor of International Motors, as his demonstrator and stars such as Audrey Hepburn and Clarke Gable regularly test drove his cars prior to their purchase. Road racing was taking off in the USA in the 1950s and Roger Barlow raced chassis 670033 at the inaugural Palm Springs race meeting. The car was also entered in the Sandown Hill Climb on the West Coast, amongst other events in the States.

670033 later went on to a new life in Mexico. It was then purchased by a well known American collector and every component was fully restored or renewed where needed. When purchased, the engine was missing, so an extremely early 1949/50 engine with ultra rare carburettors was sourced, fully rebuilt and installed in the car. The body was restored throughout with the highest quality aluminium. Once the car was rebuilt, tested and presented in such stunning condition, it competed successfully during 2008 in some of the most highly regarded concours events in the USA, a few of which are listed below.

March: Amelia Island - Road & Track Award
Meadowbrook Concours d’Elegance - “Best Driving Award”
6 July: JCNA Louisville Concours – First Place
6 August: Ault Park Cincinnati - First in Class and Grand Marshal Honorary Award of Distinction
7 December: Len Immke Arthritis Foundation Concours and Jaguar Association of Central Ohio 35th Annual Concours – First Place.
The car was then repatriated to the UK and raced at events such as Le Mans Classic, which it did in 2016. Currently sporting Brooklands aero screens, this XK120 Lightweight comes complete with spats, interior carpet & tonneau. Featured in magazines, this beautiful and very original Jaguar is ready to be enjoyed on the track or road.

An extract from the history file reads :
“After researching Barlow’s history with grassroots racing in the early 50s, I was amazed with all the racing personalities that came through International Motors. Phil Hill started there as a young mechanic and, after buying a new XK120 while taking factory training in England, he returned to race and win the Pebble Beach Road Race in 1950. Other names that came through Barlow’s authorized Jaguar dealership were John Von Newman, Richie Ginther, Faye Taylour, Stan Nowak and Noel Kirk. Barlow was the go-to-guy for all the movie stars and celebrities in those days including Clark Gable, Humphrey Bogart and James Cagney.”
