Description

The Fiat 500 was designed by Dante Giacosa and was originally launched as the 'Nuova' 500 in July 1957 as a cheap and practical town car. Measuring only 3 metres long and powered by a tiny 499cc 2 cylinder air cooled petrol engine, the 500 completely redefined the term "small car" and it is now considered to be one of the first real town cars built for inner city use. It went on to capture the hearts and minds of many Europeans until production finally ended after 18 years, in 1975.

A slight pull on the choke and according to the vendor this superb little Fiat bursts into life, the steering is reported to be light and precise and the car goes exactly where it is pointed with ease. The ride is firm without being bone jarring thanks to its simplistic suspension system, the car is reported to hold the road well with Fiat type stability and when it comes to time to bring proceedings to a halt, the brakes pull the car up straight.

The bodywork bears testimony to the level of the little Fiats restoration, panel fit is good while all of the chrome shines like new, all badge work is present and period correct. The doors are reported to shut with ease, as does the bonnet suggesting it's been put back together with sympathy and expertise. The vendor informs us of a current milometer reading of 80300 KMS (49896 miles)

The interior is in keeping with the exterior, it's in excellent condition. The red seats are firm, tear and stain free as are the door cards. And with the roof open it creates a superb place to pilot this little car along. We are informed by the vendor that the interior is all new and infact was sourced in Italy, this includes the floors, seat covers and the sunroof. We have often seen shiny cars let down by the engine, but that is not the case with this car. The bay is clean with no signs of oil, water or any fluids leaks in evidence, a wipe over after lifting the engine lid would all that is required on show day.

Sold with  an MOT until June 2015 and tax also until June 2015, this little car is in glorious condition, its size and economy make it perfect for classic day to day driving if the new owner wishes. Equally, this is now a rare car that will draw many admiring glances on the show field.
