Description

Transmission: 4 gears, Automatic
Registration number: BE8LXA

Twenty-six left-hand drive examples were built of this special S3 Continental Drophead Coupe, and only one of them was delivered new in Belgium. This beautiful S3 with Park Ward bodywork was originally delivered to Alexandre Devis, who owned the car for 25 years. It wasn't until 1991 that the car passed to the next owner, Aldo Blaton, the brother of racing driver Jean Blaton, who found himself no less than five times on the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. During Blaton's ownership, the car underwent a full restoration, including a complete interior overhaul by a prominent Italian specialist.

The third owner, a Swiss individual, decided to give the car another makeover and had the Bentley meticulously prepared to perfection. A new coat of paint followed, which is the Tudor Grey paint you can still see on this car today. After its Swiss excursion, the car returned to Belgium, to the fourth and final owner who has known the car since new. A splendid history accompanies an equally splendid car.

That this is an S3 can be seen, among other things, in the four headlights at the front of this Bentley. Coachbuilders such as HJ Mulliner, Park Ward, and James Young built cars based on a chassis, and in this case, it's a Park Ward body. The angled placement of the headlights gave rise to the nickname 'Chinese Eye.'
Under the long hood, several changes occurred in the transition from S2 to S3. A new 6,230 cc V8 engine found its way, and power steering became standard. There was no need to contemplate the choice of gearbox, as the manual variant disappeared with the S3, leaving only a Rolls-Royce four-speed automatic.

Today, the Bentley is in an optimal condition. The bodywork is exceptionally well-preserved, with sheet metal, paintwork, and a fit that are so perfect they complement the exclusive character of a Bentley like this wonderfully. Chrome work, lighting components, wheels, and tires: where ever you look, it's beautiful and in top condition.
The interior is in a class of its own. This must have been the best available at the time. Beautiful wood and an abundance of leather upholstery. The dashboard and door panels are exquisitely covered in red leather with wooden inlays, and the seats are entirely leather. Beautiful gray carpets complete the look. The large three-spoke steering wheel provides glimpses of the stylish Smiths gauges and a generous number of buttons.

It will come as no surprise after seeing the bodywork and the interior: the mechanical side has been completely overhauled. The V8 in the Bentley runs smoothly, and it's hard to believe that such an engine produces so much power. The engine is always responsive, and the Bentley also handles excellently. A distinctive feature of this model is that an S3 handles better than many would expect. An S3 is a fantastic car for long journeys, but it also handles winding roads with ease.

The Bentley comes with a wonderful history as well as being in excellent condition; there is hardly anything else to wish for in the world of cars!
