A CLASS OF ITS OWN...

The show must go on !…

A CLASS OF ITS OWN....

In a 1995 comparison, Sport Auto will be very positive with the new Aston Martin, giving it second place ahead of the 928 GTS, 500 SL and XJS 6.0, and just behind the BMW 850 CSi. Robert Puyal, who then wrote the article, pointed out that "this magnificent car is indeed capable of doing its job as a GT(...) Aston has given birth to a magnificent car, worthy of the hopes raised by its line. »
At Aston Martin, new products follow one another almost to the rhythm of the seasons and trade fairs! With its successful rejuvenation of the range and far from stopping in full glory, Aston once again surprised car enthusiasts exclusively at the Birmingham Motorshow 2002, with a new, sportier version of its iconic DB7: the GT. The show must go on!....
Getting a GT as fluid and stylish as the Aston Martin DB7 to put on its sportswear is no easy task. It is therefore with great admiration and respect that we congratulate the English stylists for the work they have done on this DB7 GT. Externally, there is no excessive bodywork kit or excessive aerodynamic appendage. Highly visible, the 18" diameter five-spoke light-alloy wheels, with low-rise pavements of 245/35 at the front and 265/30 at the rear, seem to be the only aesthetic features of the DB7 GT at first glance. However, the modifications made to the car are both mechanical and aerodynamic. The wheel arches are slightly modified as well as the underbody, the hood is drilled with a few vents and the trunk lid has an integrated spoiler, which is supposed to reduce the lift by half. Changes have also been made to the management of under-the-hood air flows, with the addition of a second cooling fan to better prevent engine overheating. The new riveted grille in mesh metal is at the very least original and decorated with its "GT" logo, it effectively underlines the sportier orientation of the model. The DB7 GT presented is dressed in a flamboyant "Tour de France Blue - Ferrari" outside the catalogue and special order and the interior is in tune with the sportiness by welcoming splendid and comfortable bucket seats for support. Between "Ocean Blue" leather and Alcantara "Navy", the interior offers the unmistakable British wellness fragrance. This unique atmosphere inexorably leads any car enthusiast to want to get behind the wheel... Because, even when stationary, this DB7 GT is a real eye-catcher.
Under the hood, we find the atmospheric V12 of the DB7 Vantage, which is only slightly "inflated", i.e. 20 horsepower and 1.7 mkg of additional torque. This moderate gain is achieved by a new injection program and a particularly careful exhaust system, introduced on the Vanquish. The adoption of a so-called "active" line, because it reduces the back pressure by valves that open according to the engine speed, also makes it possible to obtain a better sound... sorry, a delight for the eardrums! Like a high-fidelity system, the Aston V12 evolves from deep, organic bass to clear, heady highs without ever losing sound quality! Who said the V12s were too muffled? In addition to these mechanical changes, the 6-speed manual transmission adopts a shortened axle ratio offering better accelerations - 1000m DA in less than 24s please! - and better acceleration, the top speed remaining close to 295 km/h.... More than the raw figures, it is interesting to note that with such potential the Aston Martin DB7 GT competes directly with the Ferrari 456 MGT, another large, beautiful, powerful and mythical GT 2+2.
The DB7 GT's braking and suspension have also been improved to give the driver of this big baby a better sporting experience, happily approaching 1800 Kg! The brakes consist of 355 mm Brembo discs at the front and 330 mm at the rear, equipped with Pagid RS 4-2-1 calipers with the Aston seal and Racing RS pads. Changes in suspension in terms of shock absorbers, springs and geometry ensure better handling in fast driving. The firmer and more direct steering than before also contributes a lot to the best feeling obtained at the wheel of the beautiful English car. The body movements are much better contained than on the Vantage, which encourages attack, as is the V12's exceptional extension, which never seems to lack resources or responsiveness. The beautiful English GT will unveil all its talent on the road where its comfort, mechanical refinement and aesthetics will delight the proud owner of this jewel whose ability to provide pleasure is almost endless.
On a GT with such a prestigious coat of arms, it is normal to anticipate the transition from the second-hand market to that of the collection. The DB7 is a rare car compared to its competitors, with 8,938 units produced, all versions combined, compared to 30,621 BMW 8 series and 61,056 Porsche 928 for example... Note that only 191 units of the DB7 GT were produced!
Delivered new in Germany in October 2003, our DB7GT has only known a limited number of owners, now with 77000km, the car has benefited from meticulous maintenance in the Aston Martin network, its unique colour combination, and the condition of both its interior and bodywork are flawless. Looking for an iconic GT 2+2?
With the DB7 GT, Aston's target customer base is not hardcore sportsmen but rather fans of large, comfortable and high-performance GTs such as the Porsche 911 Carrera, Mercedes CL or SL AMG or even the Ferrari 456 GT. This model, the umpteenth evolution of the DB7, significantly broadens the brand's circle of influence by offering experienced enthusiasts a high-performance and sporty car to the core, faithful to the spirit and heritage of the Newport Pagnell brand.
