Farewell, Maestro! We look back at Marcello Gandini's greatest creations

Marcello Gandini, one of the most influential car designers of the 20th century, has died. We say farewell with a look back at some of his most iconic and visionary creations.

During his time at the Bertone studio, the Turin-born designer created some of the most iconic sportscars of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, such as the Alfa Romeo Carabo and Montreal,  the Lamborghini Miura, Countach, Marzal and Espada, the Lancia Stratos Zero, the Maserati Khamsin, the Ferrari 308 GT/4 and the prototype of the Bugatti EB110. It's not wonder that Marcello Gandini has been hailed as the father of the wedge-shaped supercar and one of the most influential car designers of all times.

In 2019, we had the honour to meet Marcello Gandini and spend a few days with him during the BMW Garmisch project which brought back one of his less well-known concept cars. And while we all wanted to pay tribute to his work and legacy, the master himself still very much preferred to talk about the cars of the future. A true visionary has left us for good. Still, you can read all about Marcello Gandinis greatest creations in the Classic Driver archive.
