MINI John Cooper Works GP - the fastest MINI ever

Last week at the MINI United festival at Le Castellet, the BMW subsidiary presented the fastest Mini ever: the John Cooper Works GP, which has already completed a lap of the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a staggering 8min 23sec.

The sportiest road-registered MINI ever made will go on sale later this year, with production limited to just 2,000 cars. Thanks to the MINI JCW GP’s exclusive powertrain, chassis and aerodynamics – all “inspired directly by motor sport” – the twin-scroll turbo engine propelled the new model round the Nordschleife in a time than was almost 19 seconds faster than its predecessor, the MINI Cooper S with John Cooper Works GP Kit.

Although the final tech specs have not yet been officially announced, it’s thought that the proven 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbo engine could produce around 230HP.

Visually, the new MINI variant makes no secret of its potential, with the large front and rear aprons, striking side skirts and a bespoke roof spoiler complemented by a newly developed rear diffuser.

Inside the car, the ‘race’ theme continues, with a complete absence of rear seats.
