From pick-ups to rocket launchers – 10 unusual scooters from the Market

Scooters might be best suited to the congested streets of London, Paris or Rome – but one of the listings below saw active service as a ‘Bazooka Vespa’ with French paratroopers in the 1960s…

Around 500 of these special Vespas were modified by Ateliers de Construction de Motocycles et Automobiles (ACMA) in the late 1950s for use by the French paratroopers (Troupes Aéroportées), who would parachute them into the field two at a time. It might not be quite as conspicuous as a bright pink civilian Vespa (see below) – but you’d certainly have the most unusual vehicle at any historical war re-enactment, guaranteed.
