Unbeatable wherever they ran, this fabulous example is a genuine and correct 1961 drum braked Lotus 20. Sold new by Lotus Components to Jouko Nordell in Sweden. Continuously raced in Sweden by a further three owners before heading to America to run in the monoposto series. Repatriated to the UK in 2006, the chassis was fully restored by Marque specialist Peter Dentey on his jig. Fitted with the desirable Jeff Richardson 1,100cc engine and 5-speed Pete Smith gearbox, it is well race proven, taking numerous class wins in the Formula Junior Championship during 2008 and 2009 and coming an impressive 2nd overall in the closely contested 2009 Millers FJ UK Championship for rear engine drum brake cars. Very much on the button ready to go racing having been completely checked over. The fresh Richardson engine has zero hours on it since its last restoration and the car is accompanied buy all of its receipts, FIA papers and photographic record of its rebuild.
Formula Junior racing has to be one of the most closely contested and prolific grids in historic motorsport today. With regular grids at both The Monaco Historics and The Goodwood Revival there is no other organization that produces such close and exciting racing across Europe. With strong grids also in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa and America the international appeal for Formula Junior is unsurpassed.
Very much ahead of their time, winning the British National Championship every year from 1960 through 1963, there is a reason why Lotus were so dominant in Formula Junior.
