| 1972 Citroën DS 21 Prestige by Henri Chapron Ex Philippe Pierre Bouvard Chassis no. 4660218 The revolutionary car was presented to the public featuring many advanced systems at once. The DS boasted a totally new hydro pneumatic system that ran the main functions of the car – suspension, steering, clutch, gear selection and braking. The front brakes were inboard discs, at that time still the preserve of only a few exotic racing cars, the rear track was eight inches narrower than the front and the unique centre-lock wheels carried the revolutionary Michelin X radial tyre – with a different section front and rear. With a drag co-efficient of 0.38, its streamlined bodywork was years ahead of its time. Among its many productions based on Citroën cars, the prestigious Parisian coachbuilder, Henri Chapron offered the DS with 'Prestige' upgrades. It could be built with or without a chauffeur's partition and customers were able to choose their own level of finish from an extensive catalogue of options. When the world famous Journalist, Comedian, Television Presenter and Radio Host Philippe Pierre Bouvard commissioned to build this Prestige DS 21 where he specified a number of unique options which included: • Chauffeur's partition with wood trim embellishment. • Electrically controlled partition window. • Audio system to the rear compartment. • Two inlaid retractable picnic tables. • Central cocktail Cabinet. • Radio Telephone • TV System with antennae on the trunk and roof. The coachwork is finished in Gloss Black with complementing the Black Hide interior throughout. The 'Chapron' logo is found on the trunk, and the coachbuilder's name is written in chromium-plated letters on the wings. There is a reversing light at the rear and additional long-range headlamps at the front. The wheels are embellished with Robergel wheel trims. Elegant and perfect, this unique and historic saloon has been fully restored - coachwork, interior and engine - by a recognised specialist. The car has been well maintained, with any vital mechanical work carried out and the paintwork improved. All work was carried out by well know DS specialists Kerkaert in Ivenkapelle, Belgium at a cost of around €4,000 in 2009.Additional works just completed by us included; re veneering to all wood work.
