The closest one will get to buying a brand new W107. This 300SL has covered only 1,500 dry miles in the hands of three owners from new, it is needless to say unmarked, showing no signs of wear at all.
The car was supplied directly by Mercedes Benz Stuttgart to a Mr Peter Rudge of St Helier, Jersey. The PDI inspection took place at the factory service centre on the 8 June 1989 and the car was then transported to Jersey where it remained until 2005. A letter from the first owner confirms that the car was dry stored during this period and never registered. However the service book and invoices on file show that the car was regularly started, checked over and serviced.
In October 2005, having covered 300 miles, the car was purchased by Mercedes specialist Autobarn. The SL certainly started to create quite a stir as news of this new W107 began to spread, a number of articles in the specialist motoring press featured the car. Needless to say it sold quickly to Mr Fredi Sievert, a retired German pilot living in Horley, Surrey. Following purchase he sent the car to the Classic Service Centre at the Mercedes Factory for a full check-over and service, effectively the car returned 17 years and 300 miles later to the place where it was checked over prior to delivery when new!!!
The 300SL was then brought in to the UK, duties were paid and the car was issued with a UK registration, which it retains today.
In November 2006, Mr Sievert decided to sell the car and once again it was marketed by Autobarn. It was purchased in November 2006 and placed with the other SL models in a heated garage until now.
Still indicating only 1,467 miles this has to be a unique opportunity to purchase an as new 300SL, it comes complete with all books, tools and a full history file.
