| The Aston Martin V8 Vantage was hailed as "Britain's First Supercar" for its 170 mph (270 km/h) top speed when introduced. Its engine was shared with the Lagonda, but it used high-performance camshafts, increased compression ratio, larger inlet valves and bigger carburettors mounted on new manifolds for increased output. Straight-line performance was the best of the day. When Motor Magazine tested the V8 Vantage V580 it produced incredible 0 to 60mph time of 5.2 seconds was recorded, which was quicker than the Ferrari Daytona, its main competitor of the time ! One of the most noticeable features was the closed-off hood bulge rather than the open scoop found on the normal V8. The grille area was also closed off, with twin driving lights inserted and a spoiler added to the boot lid. The 580 Vantage was more of a mechanical update which included: 16-inch (406-mm) wheels, and the more powerful V8 from the limited-edition V8 Zagato. When, in October 1978, the standard Aston Martin V8 received updates to become what is known as the 'Oscar India' specification, the Vantage received much the same treatment. The rear spoiler became much neater and fully integral and a smoother and closed bonnet bulge became standard across the range. Indeed the only external differences between the standard model and the Vantage was the large front air dam and the blanked off grille with driving lamps. In 1983 further improvements were made and the power output of the engine was increased and re-designated as 580. The wheel arches also became more pronounced to accommodate the 16” Ronal wheels fitted to this car. This particular car is a beautiful example that has spent the last 10 years dry stored in a Carcoon in Scotland and has not been used. Prior to marketing the car we have carried out a considerable refreshment program which has included completely rebuilding the suspension including all new bushes, stripping and powder coating of wishbones and upgrading with a Harvey Bailey handling kit. The engine was already in excellent condition and holds perfect oil pressure and water temperature but all four twin choke down draught Webers have been stripped, cleaned and rebuilt. The radiator has been re-cored and the car is now fitted with a Kenlowe cooling fan for use in hotter climates. Further works have included a full brake rebuild including new master cylinders, new discs and pads and rebuilt servo units and callipers. Transmission is via a 5 speed ZF manual gearbox and the limited slip differential unit was also rebuilt and the casing and De-Dion tube were powder coated before being re-installed into the car; power assisted steering is fitted as standard. . The sills have also been replaced and the car has been the subject of a full repaint and the condition of the whole car is now exemplary. The interior is finished in Parchment hide which is in superb condition and new carpets are also fitted in contrasting dark blue Wilton. The interior is completed with the addition of a new "Nardi" steering wheel, walnut door capings and dashboard all of which has been re-veneered. With the car is a comprehensive list of all of the works carried out by us together with and original and fully stamped up service book and a file containing a considerable number of invoices and correspondence dating back to the 80’s. Having been regularly serviced and maintained, the car drives like the eighties Super Car it was designed to be. Also on file is a letter from Kingsley Riding-Felce of Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd written in 1987, confirming that this was the car used for the making of the sound track of the film “The Living Daylights” which starred Timothy Dalton as James Bond.
