Beschreibung

If you want distinguished class, elegant styling and unrivalled build quality, you buy a Mercedes-Benz. And if you want all of that and unlimited headroom, then you buy an SL. The SL, which in english means Sport Light, has been in production since the mid 1950s.

Its third generation, the R107, was launched in 1971 replacing the iconic “Pagoda”. The R107, was a sales success, pairing bomb-proof Mercedes engineering with timeless styling. So timeless in fact that R107 production ran for almost two decades, unheard of in today's world. Mercedes saw success not only on the forecourt, but also in motorsport, with SLCs competing in long-distance rallies throughout the late 1970s.

This particular R107, is a 380 SL, built in 1985. Outside, you’ll find that this example is finished in a delectable shade of Champagne, an incredibly classy colour. The paintwork is in excellent condition thanks to a full repaint a few years ago, which has been well maintained. The Champagne is complemented by a new contrasting brown soft top, which is also in excellent shape. The brightwork, and plastic/rubber trims are all in good shape, the exterior is completed by colour coded hubcaps, and a period correct top-tint windscreen.

Step inside, and you’re greeted by a MB-Tex interior, which has no rips or tears, whilst the beige carpet is protected by Mercedes rubber floor mats. The four spoke steering wheel shows limited signs of wear, and the dual-tone black and cream dash is free from any fading or cracks. The contrasting wood trim has a deep lustre and finishes the interior trimming off nicely.

All of the gauges are in perfect working order and the car benefits from a period looking genuine Mercedes head unit that has been retrofitted with bluetooth connectivity, meaning that you can enjoy your latest Spotify mix with ease. You’ll also notice that despite reaching its 40th year, this SL has covered just 118,000 miles from new, an average of less than 3,000 miles a year!

Pop the long bonnet and you’re greeted with a 3.8-litre M116 V8 engine, mated to an automatic gearbox. The engine bay is clean, tidy and free from any damage. With some of the original safety labels still in place despite the car’s age. The car has just received a full-service in early 2024, alongside a gearbox rebuild meaning this SL is ready to enjoy as the warmer months arrive.

As a 1984 car, this SL benefits from becoming ULEZ and Tax exempt in just over a year's time, it comes complete with an extensive service record that includes an assortment of big bills that further endorse its pampered lifestyle.

The R107 generation of SL’s popularity continues to rise, their relative modernity means that they make the ideal classic to live with, and the well known reliability and availability of parts only support that. If you’re looking for a weekend cruiser, or a daily driver, this could be the car for you. Open top motoring, a V8 burble and tunes playing through the radio. What more could you want?

As with all our vehicles, a full digital folder is available on request containing more images, walk-around videos, and scans of the service history. The car can also be viewed by appointment at our West London showroom.
