Trade-in car. If we were to return to September 1953, we could enter a conference room where Mercedes-Benz, at that moment, is busy outlining its vision for the future. Topics range from new models to strategies for conquering the American market. At that moment, the Mercedes 180 with four doors is already rolling off the production line. The proposal is on the table to use this model as the basis for a convertible variant. However, one attendee at this meeting puts a stop to this: Hoffman, the Mercedes-Benz importer for the United States. He argues for the use of the 300 SL Gullwing as a basis, convinced of his vision of the American public and their preferences. If the new model can even come close to the spectacular design of the Gullwing, Hoffman believes that Mercedes stands a great chance of success in the American market.

During the New York Auto Show of 1954, Mercedes-Benz presented a prototype of a roadster. This prototype garnered praise from automotive journalists and other stakeholders, encouraging Mercedes to take it into production. In 1955, the 190 SL Roadster was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show. Unbeknownst to them, Mercedes had set the course for their future roadsters. The 190 SL grew into a highly sought-after classic, infused with the authentic Mercedes-Benz feeling.

This 190 SL is a project that is waiting to be completed. This particular model was delivered in California in 1960 and led a pleasant existence over there. The bodywork is flawless, and the car has been restored and completely repainted. The overall appearance is neat and provides a good basis for further work. The leather-upholstered seats look tidy. Items such as the gauges and the steering wheel are in good condition.

All in all, this is an excellent and solid foundation for further restoration. We will supply this Mercedes with all import documents. Interested in this 190 SL?
