In our opinion, the Jaguar XK remains one of the great trendsetters in British automotive history. Firstly, the car always looks very attractive in all its variants with its curving lines, and the combination of reliable, very good performance technology makes the car the classic for many. The different bodywork variants, the OTS (Open Two Seater), the DHC (Drop Head Coupe) and FHC (Fixed Head Coupe), ensure that every enthusiast can make their own choice.

The XK 140 that we now offer is the Drop Head Coupe. So it is equipped with a beautiful, in this case blue, soft top that is very quick and easy to store, after which you can drive in a wonderfully sheltered position, because it has retractable side windows. The interior offers plenty of room for two people, while behind the seats there is an excellent storage space for the extra luggage in case if the large trunk is already full.

This concerns the most powerful XK 140 version, the SE (Special Equipment) with the 3.4 Liter in-line six that delivers 213 HP. According to the supplied Heritage Certificate, the car still has the original “matching numbers” engine, but the gearbox was changed. An automatic gearbox was originally fitted. But you really shouldn’t want that, because the torque-rich engine character will not show his potential and the car feels much slower that equipped with a manual gearbox. That is why an original 4-speed manual gearbox with overdrive has been installed, exactly as it should be. This overdrive option makes the car a even better driving at a higher speed, because with the overdrive engaged the speed drops by about 600 rpm and it all becomes even more comfortable.

The owner bought the car in 2013 and subsequently completely restored it. Everything is recorded in photos, documents and invoices. The major and specialistic work such as sheet metal, painting and engine overhaul were outsourced to the professionals who worked on this on a daily basis. The owner did the rest in his limited spare time. In his profession, accustomed to striving for perfectionism on a daily basis, it was only logical that the XK should be restored in detail according to the same standards. And it certainly worked out that way. Even details like the original tool kit, which is often missing, is present in the trunk.

The car has been optically and technically in new condition. We can make an extensive list of all the things that have been carried out, but we can also summarize it in one word: everything. Nothing was left to chance and we would like to emphasize the beautiful bodywork. Why? Well, because this immediately shows the attention and quality standard they have worked with. The body of an XK is not the easiest car to restore due to its large surfaces and tight fits. Craftsmanship is absolutely necessary to achieve a result as this XK 140 shows. The beautiful dark blue paint, called Pacific Blue, further emphasizes the “tightness” of the body and the beautiful paintwork. But the finish of all chrome parts is also impressive, as is the interior, which clearly shows that the superb way in which the upholstery and leather is processed can hardly be surpassed.

According to the owner, the time has now come to say goodbye to his hobby and has therefore asked us to find a new “custodian” for this piece of British heritage. Of course, that has to be someone with a “Jag” heart. Someone who has gasoline flowing through his veins and wants to make the long-cherished wish of owning a perfect XK 140 Drop Head Coupe come true. Someone who does not intend to have to wait for a restoration to be completed, much less spend the money to do so. Because a restoration often costs more than the market value of the car. This car is ready, has been run for only a few thousand kilometers and is very attractively priced. Do you see yourself riding the most beautiful tours at home and abroad? Sometimes “pedal to the metal” driving when possible and at a relaxed speed when the view is so beautiful that it should also be enjoyed. De Jaguar XK blijft in onze ogen toch wel een van grote smaakmakers uit de Britse automobielhistorie. Ten eerste ziet de auto er in al zijn varianten altijd zeer aantrekkelijk uit met zijn welvende lijnenspel, en de combinatie met betrouwbare en zeer goede prestaties leverende techniek, maakt dat de auto voor velen dé klassieker is. De verschillende varianten qua koetswerk, de OTS (Open Two Seater), de DHC (Drop Head Coupe) en FHC (Fixed Head Coupe), maakt dat ieder liefhebber zijn keuze kan maken.

De XK 140 die we nu aanbieden is de Drop Head Coupe. Dus uitgevoerd met een prachtige, in dit geval blauwe, softtop die zeer snel en makkelijk op te bergen is waarna er heerlijk beschut, want uitgevoerd met opdraaibare zijramen, kan worden gereden. Het interieur biedt ruim plaats aan twee personen, terwijl achter de stoelen een prima opbergplek is voor de nodige bagage, mocht de flinke kofferruimte al vol zitten. Het betreft hier de krachtigste XK 140 uitvoering, namelijk de SE (Special Equipment) met de 3.4 Liter zes-in-lijn die 213 PK levert. De auto heeft, volgens bijgeleverde Heritage Certificate, nog steeds de originele motor en mag dus “Matching Numbers” worden genoemd. Oorspronkelijk was er een automatische versnellingsbak gemonteerd. Maar dat moet je echt niet willen, want het koppelrijke motorkarakter komt dan niet tot zijn recht. Daarom is er een originele handgeschakelde 4-versnellingsbak met overdrive gemonteerd, precies zoals het hoort. Deze overdrive optie maakt de auto net weer iets fijner rijdend met hogere snelheid, omdat het toerental met ingeschakelde overdrive, zo’n 600 t/min zakt en het dan allemaal nog net weer wat comfortabeler wordt.

De eigenaar heeft de auto in 2013 gekocht en vervolgens volledig gerestaureerd. Alles is op beeld en in geschrift vastgelegd en werden de grote en specialistische zaken zoals plaatwerk, spuitwerk en motorrevisie uitbesteed aan de vakmensen die dagelijks hiermee bezig waren. De eigenaar deed de rest in zijn spaarzame vrije tijd. In zijn beroep dagelijks gewend om perfectionisme na te streven, was het niet meer dan logisch dat de XK volgens dezelfde normen tot in detail gerestaureerd diende te worden. En dat is zeker gelukt. Zelfs de originele gereedschapsset, die vaak ontbreekt, is aanwezig in de kofferruimte. De auto is optisch en technisch dan ook in nieuwstaat gebracht. We kunnen een uitgebreide opsomming maken van alle zaken die zijn uitgevoerd, maar we kunnen het ook onder één woord samenvatten: alles. Niets werd aan het toeval overgelaten waarbij we met nadruk willen wijzen op de prachtige carrosserie. Waarom? Nou, omdat hieraan direct kan worden gezien met welke aandacht en kwaliteitsnorm men gewerkt heeft. De carrosserie van een XK is namelijk door zijn grote vlakken en nauwe passingen niet bepaald de makkelijkste auto om te restaureren. Vakmanschap is beslist noodzakelijk om tot een resultaat te komen zoals deze XK 140 laat zien. De prachtige donkerblauwe lak, Pacific Blue genoemd, benadrukt nog eens de “strakheid” van de carrosserie en het prachtige spuitwerk. Maar ook de afwerking van alle chroomdelen mag er zijn, evenals het interieur, dat duidelijk laat zien dat de sublieme manier waarop de bekleding en leder verwerkt is, nauwelijks te overtreffen is.

Volgens de eigenaar is nu de tijd aangebroken om afscheid te nemen van zijn hobby en heeft ons daarom gevraagd een nieuwe “bewaarder”te zoeken voor dit stukje Brits erfgoed. Dat moet natuurlijk iemand zijn met een “Jag” hart. Iemand waarbij benzine door de aderen stroomt en de lang gekoesterde wens om een perfecte XK 140 Drop Head Coupe te bezitten, bewaarheid wil zien. Iemand die niet van plan is te moeten wachten tot een restauratie klaar is, en nog minder het geld hiervoor wil uitgeven. Want een restauratie kost veelal meer dan de marktwaarde van de auto. Deze auto is klaar, is een paar duizend kilometer ingereden en is zeer aantrekkelijk geprijsd. Ziet u zichzelf al de mooiste toertochten rijden in binnen- en buitenland? Super ontspannend, lekker doorrijden wanneer het kan en met relaxte snelheid wanneer het uitzicht zodanig mooi is dat hier ook van moet worden genoten. Of dat uitzicht in de buurt komt van de schoonheid van deze Jaguar XK 140 SE Drop Head Coupe is echter de vraag. Aan u de eer om dat te ondervinden.
