Datsun Fairlady

The Datsun name was created by the D.A.T. Motorcar Company, adding the suffix ‘son’ to its name to indicate the smaller size of its new offerings in comparison to their larger D.A.T. predecessors (though 'sun' was used, as the syllable 'son' has negative connotations in Japanese). After changing its name to Nissan in 1934, the company continued to produce Datsun-badged models until the 1980s, the most memorable being the 'Z' sports cars of the 1970s.
